Reading Update 4-20

It has been a few weeks since I updated this...To celebrate Earth and Arbor Day, we wrote poems and made books for those holidays.  In science class, they created posters.  Those are entered in a contest and we have an assembly to celebrate the holiday in May.  Those will come home after that assembly.

Tomorrow is our last PARCC assessment for the end of the year.  It is two passages (one fiction and one non-fiction).  There are only multiple choice questions to assess vocabulary and comprehension. When I told the kids there were no essays, they were excited!  :)

Right now, we are working on biographies.  Students are creating their own project in class.  They had to choose a field of interest like sports, medicine, art, etc.  Then, they had to choose two people who have influence that field.  Next, they took notes on them.  Finally, they are writing an argument essay describing who they felt was more successful.  We are making booklets with this information and hiding in the pocket our own opinions.  They have worked very hard reading and learning new things about people they are interested in.  These projects are due Friday.  Class time will be used tomorrow and Wednesday.  After that, they must be finished at home.

Reading logs are still due each Monday.  Logs are now 2 entries of 6-8 sentences each.

Please continue to check the homework website if need be:

Our school collected over $3000 last week for kids with leukemia!!  That is awesome!!
