Happy April!! Hopefully everyone enjoyed their Spring Breaks. I enjoyed time home with my family.
We did a very fun activity today to start class called Spring Break or Spring Fake. Everyone had to quick write a narrative that either happened to them over Spring Break or write about something that was fake. Then, they shared in groups and had to guess if they thought each person's was real or fake. It also gave them some time to talk about what they did over Spring Break. They seemed to have a blast!
We are starting biographies this week and next week. We are looking at different fields of work people can be in like sports, music, art, writing, technology, etc. Then, students will have to choose two people of interest in that area to research further. Finally, it will end with an analysis of whom they think is more of a success in that field. We began this work by discussing what success is and criteria that can be used to evaluate success. It was very interesting to hear these discussions.
The first field as a class we are looking into is the field of writing. I chose two authors to read about- Dr. Seuss and Laura Ingalls Wilder (one everyone knows and one not too many knew). Today we read about Laura Ingalls Wilder and tomorrow Dr. Seuss. We are going through the process of taking notes and looking at their lives to determine who was more successful in the field of writing.
My goal is to also read about Harry Houdini and Jim Henson as far as the field of entertainment goes to see who has been more successful. Next week, students will have the opportunity to choose a field of interest and research two people as well.
